"We are developing our personal relationships with Jesus Christ, grounded in prayer and worship, which form the foundation of our warm, welcoming, faith-based community. We answer His call to love and serve one another, reach out to those in need and make disciples by bringing others to Him."
The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) supports the Parish Priest, providing spiritual leadership and in the development of a meaningful sense of community and sound administrative procedures.
The PPC’s purpose is to encourage and enable all parishioners and all parish organisations to participate in the life of the church by contributing to the planning and development of all projects and activities of the Parish.
Specific aims of the Parish Pastoral Council are:
- Through prayer and contemplation, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to bear witness to the presence of Christ in the Parish community
- To develop a sense of community in the Parish
- To foster growth and maturity and encourage development and change, where appropriate
- Planning for the future of the Parish considering the views of the whole Parish, particularly those formed at the annual open Parish meeting
Purpose
The PPC is a consultative and representative body of Christ’s faithful whose purpose is the promotion of the mission of the Church in all its aspects in this Parish.
The members of the PPC will always work in close collaboration with the Parish Priest to advise him in matters pertaining to pastoral ministry.
Initial and Ongoing Formation
Since the PPC is established to assist the Parish Priest to exercise his ministry, its deliberations are to be informed by the word of God, the teaching of the Church and the directives of the bishop.
To ensure that it can do so adequately, every meeting will begin with a time of prayer and reflection.
Each year members of the PPC are given opportunities to deepen understanding of their role by periods of prayer, study, and reflection, either as members of the PPC or along with other members of the parish, deanery, or diocesan community.
To this end the PPC often co-ordinates and promote the activities of the Parish and the organisations within the Parish in the following key areas:
- Christian Formation
- Liturgy and Worship
- Ecumenism
- Social and Community Activities
Mandate
The PPC is to be renewed after every three years. At the end of each term all members lapse. At this point the Parish Priest will initiate new nominations.
If one of the places on the PPC should fall vacant during the term the Parish Priest may nominate someone to take the place for the remainder of the term.
